Sustainable ingredients that enhance affordable food are key to Unilever and the world. One of the innovation partners to explore new food and biobased solutions is the agri-food consortium Royal Cosun. One of oldest farmers’ cooperatives with 7 plant based businesses including Aviko, Cosun Beet Company and Sensus.
Under the umbrella of a joint development agreement, our teams have worked on various new food ingredients and applications. All from local crop and side streams that have a positive impact on the health and sustainability foot print of the future Unilever assortment.
Some new to the world ingredients that currently are in scope: fava protein isolate, brewer’s spend grains, texturizer from sugar beet pulp, gelling protein from leaves and potato based vegan cheese alternative.
Next to that there is a collaboration on venturing with emerging companies. Here Cosun takes responsibility in the upstream part and Unilever of the downstream part of the value chain. Together parties believe to create an impact to reach strategic goals faster with less risk.
Our goal
Cosun produces plant-based food and food ingredients, feed, biobased ingredients and green energy. It is our mission to get the most out of the plant and to offer solutions for society in the field of food and climate.
